LESSONS
Joey specializes in music lessons for piano, saxophone, composition, and production. He teaches all levels and ages, and has been teaching music lessons for over 14 years. Joey has been playing the saxophone and piano for over 24 years. In addition to working as a saxophone coach at Westview and Mt. Carmel High School, Joey has taught college level courses in electronic music and music production at SDSU. He currently works as the music director at New Summit Charter Academy in Colorado Springs, and is also an adjunct professor in music at Mesa college in San Diego, where he teaches Piano, the History of Rock Music, World Music, and the History of Jazz. Joey also composes, records, and produces electro-acoustic music and all students will have the ability to get professional quality recordings of their music on request. Joey has a very adaptable approach when he teaches. He understands that all students have very different learning styles and interests. His broad range of musical training allows his students to learn many styles and genres of music while understanding fundamentals like theory and technique. Students will be empowered to hone their craft as an instrumentalist, composer, producer, artist, or all of the above.
Virtual Lessons and Recitals
Joey also specializes in providing convenient and effective online music lessons. These lessons allow students and parents to manage their often chaotic schedules with more ease. Joey uses multiple camera angles and professional audio equipment to ensure the students are receiving clear instructions and examples. Virtual lessons have clear advantages over in person lessons. For example, there is no transition time switching places on the piano bench. Joey is able to provide clear instant feedback to students with smart camera angles and screen sharing, and provide links to sheet music, additional online resources, and instructional videos. Joey has taught students all over the country online, and holds “virtual” recitals a few times a year. Students are able to participate in the recital by submitting a performance video that Joey edits into a final recital video. The students, parents, and their families are then able to view the performances at their convenience.
